ACCEPTABLE PROGRAM AND FILE FORMATS:

1) Adobe Illustrator (Vector): Best for spot color images and text. Art will be accepted as an .ai or .eps extension with the fonts converted to outlines or included on the disk/e-mail. If images are placed in the file, the originals must be included.

*Adobe Photoshop images placed in Illustrator does not make them automatic spot color images.

2) CorelDraw (Vector): Best for spot color images and text. Art will be accepted as a .cdr, or .eps extension with all fonts converted to curves or included. The more gradients in the image, the more art time that will be involved. If images are placed in the file, the originals must be included.

3) Adobe Photoshop (Raster, NOT good for spot color images): Best for photos to be printed with 4-color process, simiulated process, or spot seperations.

Art is best accepted as: .psd, or .tif extension at full size and 300 ppi (min 200 ppi) - any lower will produce low quality prints with jagged edges, and poor color gradiations.

Jpeg files are used for viewing purposes ONLY. They will not be accepted as production files and will require artwork re-creation prior to production.

UNACCEPTABLE PROGRAMS AND FILE FORMATS:

Files ending with .jpg, .gif, .png are low resolution files used to keep files sizes minimal for onscreen viewing and web graphics purposes. All cases will require artwork re-creation.

Files ending with .vcf, .rtf, and .doc are extensions from Microsoft Word that will not be accepted.
Not a graphics program.

Powerpoint and AutoCAD cannot be exported to something that can be used by our shop.

*Powerpoint is a slide presentation program meant for on screen viewing. Submission in this format will require artwork recreation.

Pagemaker is desktop publishing software and not acceptable as a format.

ARTWORK SUBMISSION:

E-mail: (For vector art only.) Art is best sent as an .ai, .eps, .cdr, .zip. Artwork larger than ten megabytes, even vector art, must be submitted on disk. Large Photoshop (.psd) or image files (.tiff) must be submitted on CD-Rom, NOT by e-mail.

Disk: All artwork will be accepted on disk, and usb memory stick. These are the two prefered submission methods for artwork. Please include color print out of art with disk.

*Fonts need to be IBM compatible. It is preferred that all fonts be converted to outlines / curves.

COPYRIGHT PROTOCAL: Copyrighted and licensed artwork/logos/names, etc. cannot be reproduced without proper authorization from the copyright/license owner(s).

*For more information consult United States Copyright Laws.

COMPUTER & PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY: We are IBM compatible. We have the latest versions of software including: Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Illustrator CS3, and CorelDraw X3. We can accept files saved to be compatable with these versions or earlier versions of the software.

ART APPROVAL: All new artwork or copy changes are approved by fax or e-mail with receipt. All artwork must be properly approved before it will be submitted for production. Artwork MUST be submitted and approved seven to ten business days before order deadline to allow for production lead times. Artwork that is submitted or approved late will result in changed order deadlines.

CUSTOMER SEPARATIONS: Process separations supplied by the customer will not be accepted. Our separtions are created specifically for the equipment used in our plant. Please let us prepare your separtions. Spot color halftones should also be done by us to account for proper dot gain, screen mesh count, and type of ink.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SENDING ART VIA EMAIL: Email your art to artdept@tdcscreens.com

In the text of your email, please include the following information:

Purchase order number and company name, if applicable, your contact name and phone number, the name and version of the application used to create the artwork sent, and be sure to include all imported graphics which should be in eps or tiff format.

If you have any questions, please contact the Art Department at 931-920-5602.

..RASTER vs VECTOR
..Raster Images composed of a matrix (grid) or bitmap of digital picture elements (pixels). Pixels are squares or rectangles described as black, white, gray or color. The image is built up dot by dot; if you zoom in, the pixels get bigger and the image ends up looking like Lego. (e.g., a photographic image, complex images with continious tone)
..Vector composed of mathematically-defined geometric shapes—lines, objects and fills. Because vector elements are mathematically-defined, scaling simply requires modification of their mathematical locations. However, vector files do not support photographic imagery very well and generally used for simple or composite drawings. (e.g., line art, un-rendered text)
..SCREEN Resolution vs PRINT Resolution
..Screen Screen resolution refers to the number of pixels a screen can display within a given area. Screen resolution is usually expressed in pixels per linear inch of screen. Most personal computer displays have resolutions that vary from 72 to 96 pixels per inch (ppi).
..Print Print resolution is the number of ink dots printed on an inch of paper measured in DPI. A printer's dot is from 300% to way over 1000% smaller than a pixel on a screen. Dots are also referred to as sub-pixels. A pixel is generaly made up of 3 dots or sub-pixels when printed.
..Resolution Terms
..PPI Pixels Per Inch The total number of pixels per square inch in a computer display.
..DPI Dots Per Inch The measure of printing resolution, in particular the number of individual dots of ink within a linear one-inch space. (Also know as sub-pixels)
..LPI Lines Per Inch The measurement of printing resolution in systems that use a halftone screen. Specifically, it is a measure of how close together the lines in a halftone grid are.
